The lovable old crab was 'born' in 1986 for the Shoebox Cards division, out of the imagination of John Wagner, who went to work for Hallmark in 1986. Her and dog, Floyd will celebrate her 25th anniversary in 2011. He himself reports Maxine was inspired by his mother, grandmother, and maiden aunts. That it was Grandma who bought him his first art lessons. Maxine's job, is to make somebody laugh and that makes Mr. Wagner happy in return.
