I wish I was a little rock,

There is a story that is told
in a valley far away,
of a maiden, a crime
and the price there was to pay.
Oh, the night was dark
and the wind blew shrill
but a cold fire burned
on far North Hill.
The people in the beds
in the valley below,
cowered and covered their heals
waiting for dawn to show.
For when flames burn high
of palest hue,
Justice is called;
all debts come due.

A fair maid went walking
on a sweet summers day
and fell asleep in the
fresh scented hay,
Three men found her there
and each had his way,
leaving her for dead
in the blood soaked hay.
When day was done
and all was still,
she made her way
to Far North Hill.
The night grew old
while the maid there crept
and her bruises grew dark
and her deep wounds wept.
Once more on the hill
a cold fire burned,
with in it’s flame
a form there turned.
Called from stone
and out of flame,
to the maiden’s plea
the Fire-born came. |

Invoked with pain
and darkest deed,
a voice gently spoke,
“What is your need?”
“Vengence!” the maid cried,
“My women’s pride
and the means to
help others like me.”
“What do you offer
for your request,
If I grant to you
what you have asked?”
She replied with out fear,
“All that I am,”
and reached to take
the flame formed hand.

The first met his fate
with an old hanging rope;
the second she killed
with a stone.
The third man died
by a long silver knife,
his neck sliced deep
to the bone.
Vengeance was done
by that maiden fair,
that all may walk safely
in the sweet summer’s air.
Now she rides on the hill
in the dark of the night,
The sword at her side
is silver bright.
And in her eyes burns...
Cold Fire.

if “Vengeance,” you cry,
you too must pay.
